Posted on 01/20/2021
Boss of the YearShannon Criss came to Harney County in June 2019 and has fully immersed herself in getting to know the community and running the helm for Harney ESD. She works above and beyond the call of duty, and is a passionate advocate for students and children of all ages. 2020 has been a curve ball for administrators, requiring navigation of the constantly changing rules and guidelines. Though Shannon has served in public education for over 32 years, no one could have been prepared for the onslaught of 2020 with its pandemic regulations that change as constantly as the number of positive cases. She has been a rock and a cheerleader for all of our rural teachers and staff; and provided critical positive leadership at Harney ESD.

Shannon came to Harney County from Washington State, where she had been a teacher, coach, mentor, administrator, director, superintendent and champion for all students. An avid outdoor enthusiast and horsewoman, Shannon is also very enthusiastic about 4-H and FFA programs. As the superintendent of Harney ESD, she logs many miles attending board meetings and functions at our distant schools. She has gladly helped with Hearing & Visions screenings, BOB book competitions, Health Fairs, and more. Community involvement is very important to her, and she spent many hours volunteering at this year's Harney County Fair. Shannon is a Lions Club member. State-wide, she is on the OSU's Outdoor Education Committee and the REN (Regional Education Network) committee.

The staff at Harney ESD enthusiastically celebrates Shannon Criss as Harney County's Boss of the Year!
